The women featured in Windy City Blues are all members of F.A.C.E.T., a critique group for quilt and textile artists living within 150 miles of Chicago. F.A.C.E.T. was founded in 1987 to meet the needs of serious professional quilt artists. Eleven years later, we are still meeting, sharing our quilts, and networking. F.A.C.E.T is a group juried by the membership. It is made up of women with established styles and track records as teachers, writers, and professional artists.
The F.A.C.E.T. Group has had several group shows, including a two year traveling exhibition and a recent Tenth Anniversary Exhibition.
Our meetings center around serious critique. Each of us has a particular vision that we carefully cultivate in each other and in ourselves. The sharing of critique is a great stimulation. Many of us acknowledge the meeting as a major impetus for getting work finished. Often we advise each other. just as often we ignore that advice and implement our own solutions. The goal is to raise the question, not to find the one and only answer.
We do our bit to stretch the boundaries of contemporary quilting, but see ourselves as artists first and quilters second. The aim for each of us is to create art so personally our own that it could encroach nowhere near to anyone else's work. Here, as artists, we show truly who we are. Back to quilts. Back to top
