Design
Concept
This ensemble was made in 1987 for Artwear '87 a special show of art to wear at the Minneapolis Art Institute.
The suit is made from silk noil, dyed in rainbow gradations. The jacket is pieced from strips of fabric in the cool color of the color wheel with narrower strips of the warm colors interspersed. The pleats of the skirt are pieced, with the cool colors on the outside of the pleats, and the warm colors on the inside of the pleats.
The sweater was machine knit with silk yarn, and then painted with dye to match the suit. The shoes were painted to match the suit, and the hat was embellished with silk from the lining of the jacket. |
