Design Concept

This is one of a series quilts in which 1/2", constructed tucks are pieced into a patterned background.   This is also the sixteenth in a sub-series exploring various relationships between checks and gradations of rainbow colors.   The background fabric is a commercial black and white striped fabric.

Each of the ½" tucks is constructed from two different fabrics.   The right sides of the tucks are made from black and white striped fabric.   The left sides of the tucks were dyed in graduated rainbow hues.  The use of color and value gradations, and the twisting of the tucks from side to side, create the illusion of movement and light across the surface of the quilt.
