On the top level I took a photograph looking down three levels. I was fascinated by the patterns of cracks in the sandstone and the kerf marks made by the cutting tools used to shape it.

To me, one of the most interesting things was the texture of the rock from which the museum was carved.

My quilt began with part of a photograph I took of the wall. I played with the photo, changing the shape to square and rotating it to change the orientation. I adding contrast, and saturation, which brought out colors that were not immediately apparent in the original photo.

On my Surface computer, I painted out details that I didn't want in the quilt and drew in black lines to emphasize the cracks in the rock.

My computer has a 14" x 24" touch screen that tilts like a drawing board and allows me to draw and paint directly on the screen with my finger or a stylus.
