Design Concept

This is one of a series of quilts in which three dimensional, constructed tucks are incorporated into a pieced background.  The fabrics used to piece the background were hand dyed various gradations from mauve to orange to yellow.  The background was string pieced, then cut into strips and reassembled with a tuck in each seam.

Each of the 1/2"  "tucks” was constructed from two different fabrics. A different gradation of colors and values is used on each side of the tucks.  The use of color and value gradations, and the twisting of the tucks from side to side, create the illusion of movement and light across the surface of the quilt.

This the second of a three-quilt commission for Sprint Services, Nashville, TN
