Women by Women a new exhibition by The Surface Design Association: North Peninsula Chapter opened June 29 at Pippa’s Real Tea in downtown Port Townsend, WA. The show will run through the end of August.
Meet the artists at the Port Townsend Gallery Walk on July 2, 5:30-8pm and again on August 6.
The Surface Design Association is an international community engaged in the creative exploration of fibers & fabric to promote awareness & appreciation of the textile arts. Surface design art uses techniques that manipulate or alter the surface of a textile— a natural or artificial fiber, or non-textile element that takes on the properties of fiber. Work can be functional or not, and can be for the wall, the body or as decoration.
Our North Peninsula chapter of 36 artists are from Port Townsend, Port Angeles, Sequim, Bainbridge Island, and places in between. Many of our professional members have won national and international awards. Our media include weaving, spinning, dyeing, quilting, beading, printing, encaustic, wood turning, doll making, felting, collage, and paper.
Fifteen of our artists have interpreted the theme, Women by Women, in our respective fiber media to bring you a broad range of images and techniques. We meet monthly and new members are welcome.
