Classroom Requirements
Preferred Classroom Table Setup
Learn to piece perfect "Flying Geese" in a curve, like the
ones in Caryl's 1995 AQS Best of Show quilt Migration
#2. The class project will be an eight to twelve inch square practice
block. A pattern will be provided. You will also learn to draft your own
variations on this pattern. Kits of graduated fabric will be available
for sale in the class, or the block can be pieced in a limited range of
colors with fabrics brought from home. A sewing machine and iron will
be required. Visit our Gallery
page to see more quilts using this technique.
Supplies Needed
-
Fabric: Choose gradations of at least
four to eight values (light - medium - dark) of at least two colors.
The more colors you have to choose from, the more colorful your project
will be. The results you get will be much more dramatic if you choose
solid colors or very low contrast prints. Fat quarters or fat
eighths of each color will be enough.
Bring a few additional fabrics in a range of colors and values some
of these may be used as backgrounds for your flying geese, and may
be larger prints. If you dye your own fabric, or have access to fabrics
dyed in color or value gradations, these will be useful. Large amounts
of any one fabric will not be necessary.
Fabrics dyed in color and value gradations will be available for sale
in the class, to preview these fabrics, See
our Internet Store
