NEW WORK: INSPIRATION AND THE CREATIVE PROCESS

60 minutes inspiration / design process

This fast moving, information-packed digital lecture focuses on my recent quilts, and takes an in-depth look at their development. I will discuss, in detail, my personal methods for finding inspiration and creating designs. My sewing and quilting techniques will also be included, with lots of close-up details.  A question and answer time after each lecture is welcome.

With advance notice, this lecture can also be presented as a two-hour teaching seminar with additional technical instruction or condensed into a 30-40 minute mini-lecture.

DEMYSTIFYING THE NEW TOOLS
Freeform Computer Design for Quilters

45-60 minutes
design process & technique

Caryl explains the difference between a bit map, and a vector drawing, and shows exactly how she uses them to create the freeform designs in her quilts. The design tools she uses can be found in many different programs, for both Macintosh and PC computers. Even if you never want a computer, you will find the process interesting and entertaining, and you can use many of the same processes with paper and pencil.

Drawing With Thread:
The Fine Art of Machine Quilting

60 minute - technique lecture

Caryl is well known for her freeform, organic quilting designs. In this lecture she shares her secrets for managing the quilt sandwich, controlling the stitches, and her techniques for developing designs. She will show many of her own quilts, and will also include the work of several other master machine quilters.

Printing Photos, Fruit, Flowers, and other Fun Stuff on Fabric
30-40 minute technique lecture

In this teaching lecture, Caryl will show you how to create your own original fabric using an inexpensive, ink jet printer. You can use this method for printing pictures on fabric or you can create your own original designs. Caryl will show several of the quilts she has made, using fabric printed on her ink jet printer.
