Workshop Summary

In this workshop, Caryl will show you how to create your own original (washable) fabric using an inexpensive, ink jet printer. You can use this method for printing pictures on fabric or you can create your own original designs. Caryl will show several of the quilts she has made, using fabric printed on her ink jet printer.

You will have a chance to print some fabric of your own, using an all-in-one scanner/printer. Pre-soaked fabric sheets will be available in the class. You can try direct printing of photos and other objects laid on the scanner to create an original pattern. You will be sharing a printer with 4-5 other students.

.Supplies you need to bring

• Notebook for taking notes.
• Photos your have taken, or other images you would like to print on fabric.
• Objects from nature, fun sewing notions, stuff that interests you, anything you can lay on glass in an 8½" x 11" space and copy onto fabric. It doesn't have to be flat. This will be your chance to experiment and see what you get.

• Hewlett Packard will arrange for printers to be shipped to your location. We will need to make these arrangements well ahead of time, and someone will need to receive the printers and keep them until the workshop.
• I will be using a digital projector and computer. If one is available for us to use at your facility, please let me know. Otherwise I will bring my own projector.

  You will need to provide:
  • Room with lights that can be dimmed easily. Projected images will not show up in a light room.
  • Projector stand
  • Small table for computer
  • Screen or large blank, white wall for projecting images.
• Two or more tables for display of work
• Tables to set up printers for students to share.
• Extension cords with surge protectors for plugging in printers.
• Quilt stand(s) for hanging quilts (if available)
