Three hour class

Preferred Classroom Table Setup
Classroom Requirements

Learn the secret of piecing log cabin hexagons with a spin, like the ones in Caryl's "REFRACTION" series. The class project will be an eight to twelve inch practice block. This project works best with two or more sets of graduated colors, however, a practice block can be pieced in a limited range of colors with fabrics brought from home. Kits of graduated fabric will be available for sale in the class. A sewing machine and iron will be required.

Supplies Needed:

  • Fabric: You will need a minimum of two sets of color and value gradations with 6-8 values (light to dark) in each gradation. An eighth yard of each color will be plenty for the workshop sample. Fabrics for this project will be for sale in the workshop, however you may also bring your own fabric from home. If you hand dye your own fabrics in color gradations, please bring several gradations to choose from.  If you want to work with print fabrics, choose only very small, low contrast prints and be sure you have some that are very light and some that are very dark.    To preview the fabrics that will be available for sale,  click here
  • Thread: medium grey,  or other neutral medium value thread
  • Iron: Preferably with steam
  • Sewing Machine: One that is friendly and well adjusted. You must know how to operate your sewing machine
  • Heavy duty Extension Cord with two outlets. three prong adaptor if needed for classroom outlets
  • Basic Sewing Kit for hand and machine sewing.
  • Rotary Cutter, Board and Ruler
  • Table Top Ironing Pad
  • Scissors (paper and fabric)
  • Plain Paper, Pencil, Compass
  • 1" X 6" Clear Plastic Ruler (preferably with 1/4"  or 1/8" grid) (if you can't find one, Caryl will have a few that you can borrow in the class)
  • Litter Bag
